This year our USA CEO Michael Goldman attended the NPEE and his report is below. It has great significance for MediKane – USA and Australia. We are on the right track and have to move faster.
Natural Product Expo East was held last week in Baltimore. This year’s event was noticeably larger than last year in terms of the number exhibitors, the number of attendees (30,000) plus the availability of information sessions (the extended program was over 5 days).
There was still no sign of any credible “diabetes-related” natural products. For that matter, very few (if any) foods with special purposes were exhibited.
No products were solely focused on gut health although a rising trend was referencing the micro-biome and many product’s claims refer to the brain-gut axis.
The industry is continuing to develop standards for using terms like Natural and Organic and many seminars focused on preparing manufacturers and distributors for impending legislative changes.
One trend that has emerged in the past 12 months is the “growth” of the pre-biotic category. Upwards of 20 products were making claims related to benefits of pre-biotics.
NPEE featured a huge upswing in the number of weight control products being exhibited which is a key factor in managing diabetes.
Sachets do not appear to be on-trend. The preference for supplements and powders is still to be purchased in tubs containing one months’ supply of product.
